The Good Life: Edmonton Resources

COMING SOON: a Saskatoon Resources Page

Right now, the Alberta Advantage is making life astoundingly good for most local businesses. If you'd like to pass on a little of that good fortune, here are some innovative Edmonton organizations that help the less fortunate—particularly children—to help themselves.

Some of these organizations give tax receipts. Check them out; they're worth a look.

Can't Use Your Event Tickets?
You've got tickets to the big game—but Johnny has a toothache. Instead of letting those tickets go to waste, call KidsUpFront. They'll make sure that your surplus event tickets are passed on to families that can use them.

Your donation will provide fun and recreation for children who otherwise might never have a chance at those inspiring "extras". Tickets can be turned around within a few hours' notice, so don't hesitate to call.

Help Keep a Kid in Sports
Sports can be the lifeline for a child in a struggling family. The Brick sponsors Sport Central, an organization that helps kids in need to access the sports equipment they require to particpate. Whether your child has outgrown a sport, or just outgrown his or her current equipment, consider donating to this very worthy cause.

Give a Kid a Chance: Donate Old Computer Equipment
Instead of trashing or recycling your old computers, you can donate them to the Electronics Recycling Association. They'll repair/rebuild them, then donate them to low-income families.

These days, a kid without a computer faces a huge handicap in becoming a productive, self-sufficient adult. Keep these kids in the game of life! Donate your old computer equipment.

BrightNights: Feeding Hungry Kids
BrightNights, owned and operated by the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce, is Canada's largest drive-through Christmas theme park. This HUGE wintertime display includes 525 animated and static displays, some 40 feet tall. In 2005, the Chamber unveiled “BrightNights on the Square” in Sir Winston Churchill Square in downtown Edmonton.

In the few years of its operation, BrightNights has contributed nearly $500,000 to the Edmonton Chamber of Commerce “Endowment Fund for Children in Need”, benefiting Edmonton's School Lunch Program. Having paid off its investment in the displays, BrightNights is debt-free and in a position to contribute more than ever to hungry kids.
